1.  Garden City Community College Ambassador Scholarship:  I can nominate one senior for this award, but I’m not going to nominate someone who doesn’t plan on going to GCCC.  If you are considering GCCC or are planning on attending and would like to be nominated for this, please let Mrs. Headrick know.  At that point, we’ll look at the scholarship criteria. 
 

2.  Western Kansas Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute Scholarship:  This group is offering 4 $1000 scholarships.  These are renewable scholarships if recipients continue their education and maintain satisfactory grades.  Eligibility criteria appears below: 
 

 
 

3.  Pratt County Medical Society Scholarship:  This group awards 1 $1000 scholarship based on the following eligibility criteria: 
 

 
 

4.  Haviland High School Ellis Scholarship:  This scholarship was set up in honor of two Haviland High School graduates named Howard and Eva Ellis.  The scholarship information I received does not specify a scholarship amount.  Guidelines follow: 
 

 
 

5.  Senator Robert J. Dole Public Service Scholarship Program:  Up to 128 $1000 scholarships will be awarded this year.  Eligibility criteria follows:

6.  Jim Johnson Scholarship:  This scholarship was set up in honor of Jim Johnson by the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.  The scholarship is a $500 scholarship to a senior pursuing a career in one of the physical sciences:  chemistry, physics, astronomy, earth science, geology, hydrology, meteorology, oceanography, and/or soil science.

The information on this scholarship is actually for 2007 graduates.  It was left in my box over the summer.  However, there will be another one for 2008 graduates and if you are interested, we will find it for you.  See Mrs. H if interested. 
 
 

8.  K-State @ Salina’s Engineering Technology Department ELITE Scholarship:  This department has received a $500,000 grant to provide financial assistance to eligible students pursuing careers in engineering technology.  Specific eligible programs include:  Construction Engineering Technology, Web Development, Computer Systems Technology, Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology.  (ELITE stands for Enhancing Lives Through Technology and Engineering.) 
 

They did not list a deadline, so if this interests you, let’s get started ASAP.  Please see Mrs. Headrick. 
 

9.  Vocational Education Scholarship Program:  This program is designed to provide financial assistance to full-time students enrolled in a designated one or two-year vocational program.  Designated programs are located at various Kansas area technical schools/colleges, community colleges, KSU @ Salina, etc.   
 

To apply for the scholarship, you must be a Kansas resident, a graduate from an accredited high school, plan to enroll full-time in a designated vocational program in Kansas, and take the designated vocational scholarship test.  Test given on March 1, 2008. 
 

10. University of Dayton (Catholic University):  If you are interested in attending a top-ten national Catholic university, you may be interested in this.  They give several scholarships based on gpa and ACT scores: 
 

11. Balfour & Taylor Scholarship:  This organization gives away 1 Founders Scholarship ($6,000), 5 Chairman’s Scholarships ($5,000), 10 Outstanding Achievement Scholarships ($2,500), and 45 ECI Academic Award Scholarships ($1,000).  The application is fairly straightforward and shouldn’t take a whole lot of time.

12. Colby Community College:  If you are interested in Colby Community College and scored a 22 or higher on your ACT, please see Mrs. Headrick.  You may qualify to be nominated for a scholarship award of $1,500 per year. 
 

13. Barton CC Cougar Sports Medicine Tuition and Books Scholarship:  If you are interested in attending Barton and joining their student athletic trainers’ staff while completing your degree, see Mrs. Headrick.  They take 20-25 students each year (not all of which are incoming freshmen) and you have to take at least 12 hours (full time student) and maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 in order to renew your scholarship.  There is a form to fill out if you are interested.  See Mrs. H as soon as possible. 
 

14. Kansas State University Women’s Rowing:  The KSU Women’s Rowing Team is looking for female athletes who are 5’10” or taller and intend to continue their athletic careers in college.  KSU would like to show you what Rowing is all about if you are interested in going for a visit. (I have had former students who wanted to play other sports, but were not able to do so at a Division I school.  Rowing offered them an opportunity to compete at the Division I level.) 

 

15. Kansas Masonic Foundation:  This group offers affordable loans to students planning to attend college in the state of Kansas.  Applications for these loans are due by April 15, 2008.
 

16. Southern Pioneer Electric Company:  Will award $10,500.00 to high schools throughout their service territory.  Each high school will receive $ 750.00 which will be awarded to one deserving senior.
