 Dear USD 474 Community,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to a new  school year at Haviland Grade School. Whether you are a long-standing member of our community or a  family newly joining our district, we are excited to have you as a part of our educational family.

I am honored to serve as Superintendent of Schools in a district with such a deeply rooted commitment to academic excellence and genuine interest of every student within the district. Our district has seen enormous growth in the past year and is now at an 18 year high in enrollment numbers! Our students are challenged, supported, and inspired on a daily basis to help them reach their full potential throughout their school experience. I truly believe the successes and growth of the district are a direct result of the students' own hard work and the dedication of our faculty and staff, our Board of Education, and wonderful community support.

I am also a believer that a strong school system is a vital part of a strong community; I invite each of you to stay connected to the school as much as possible as your partnership makes a meaningful difference to our successes. Thank you for your continued support in our efforts to provide a meaningful learning experience to our community's youth. What a great time to have Haviland Pride!!!

Why Haviland?

Our differentiators —

Our mission is to support and equip students, teachers, and parents by providing amazing Pre-K through Grade 8 academic resources based upon traditional values.

USD 474 is driven by our unwavering commitment to excellence, equity, and the holistic development of our students. Together, we forge a path of educational success, inspiring a love for learning and empowering our students to shape a bright and promising future for themselves and our community. We have a unique set up with preschool through 8th grade in Haviland all under one roof. We have a cooperative agreement with Kiowa County Schools in Greensburg. We team up with them for the opportunity for our Junior High students to play sports with their students. Our cooperative agreement extends to our high school students. Haviland students attend Kiowa County High School and we provide transportation to and from school.

We maintain strong partnerships with local businesses and organizations, offering students real-world learning opportunities and community involvement. Haviland combines hard work, resilience, and respect for the land. Its rural character fosters responsibility, perseverance, and community pride — qualities that make it a wonderful place to live and raise a family.

Community Programs

From arts and athletics, we offer a wide range of community extracurricular activities to nurture students' varied interests and talents to learn and grow beyond the classroom. Through partnerships with the local college, students can explore drama and performing arts. The Haviland Recreation program provides after-school activities, summer events, and Fun Friday experiences on non-school days — giving children engaging, safe, and enriching ways to connect, play, and discover new interests.
